19. Woman with Hands Raised (in Rubble)

Amidst the tumbled stone and concrete of a destroyed city a faceless woman stands in front of a pile of rubble. Her arms are raised and her hands placed behind her head in an appearance of surrender. She stands up straight and unbending. Her legs below the knees have been blown away and are now replaced with steel reinforcing rods.

Pośród fragmentów kamienia i betonu, kobieta bez twarzy stoi przed zwałami gruzu. Unosi ręce nad głowa w geście poddania. Stoi prosto jak struna. Zamiast nóg, od kolan w dół ma stalowe pręty.

A hymn to Struggle and Victory over adversity. A reminder of Sacrifice. A memory of one reality and a vision of another. (Black lines frame a grey body, the arms of which form a triangle and the thighs two strong cylinders ending in straight lines disappearing into the ground off the picture plane. The damaged human figure dominates the rubble and seems to rise out of it in strength.)

Hymn ku czci Walki i Zwycięstwa, pokonujących przeciwności. Pomnik poświęcenia. Wspomnienie jednej rzeczywistości i wizja kolejnej. (Czarne linie otaczają szarą postać, jej ramiona tworzą trójkąt, a jej uda dwa mocne walce, zakończone prostymi liniami, znikającymi w podłożu poza płaszczyzną obrazu. Zniszczona ludzka postać dominuje nad gruzowiskiem i zdaje się wyrastać z jego siły.)
