An elderly woman walks with the aid of a stick through ice-laden monuments and frozen streets in Poznań. The sun is shining giving her silhouette a two-dimensional appearance. She walks upright carefully but it seems with some difficulty. For the moment she is motionless, fixed in the picture plane like a black shadow.


Starsza kobieta idzie o lasce przez oblodzone ulice Poznania, mija skute lodem pomniki. Świecące słońce nadaje jej sylwetce drugi wymiar. Porusza się, wyprostowana choć z trudem. Obraz uchwycą ją podczas ruchu i wygląda jak czarny cień uchwycony w kadrze.

She has kept her balance for 80 years and has endured war, invasion, uprising, the fall of political systems. During all this she has survived somehow to be here today, confronting the immediate threat: an icy sidewalk. Hanging on to her balance. (There is nothing here in the bright snow-blind sunlight but an indistinct jumble of the past, the bright white of ice-bound memories, the dazzling glare of too many memories, piled up and confused in their multitude. Only black shadows parallel the old woman's black outfit. She stands like a black crow in a white field, balanced to depart.)

Przez osiemdziesiąt lat udawało jej się utrzymać równowagę, na przekór wstrząsom wojny, najazdu, powstania, upadku systemów politycznych. Przetrwała wszystkie rozruchy, a dziś stoi przed kolejnym, nagłym zagrożeniem: oblodzonym chodnikiem. Wciąż próbując utrzymać równowagę. (W oślepiających od śniegu promieniach słońca Ne ma tu teraz niczego, oprócz zamglonych zwałów przeszłości, bieli wspomnień, skutych lodem, lśnienia zbyt wielu wspomnień, nawarstwionych i przypadkowych w swojej liczności. Jedynie czarne cienie są echem czarnego ubrania starej kobiety. Stoi niczym kruk na białym polu, łapiąc równowagę przed odlotem.)
